Unlike the previous chairman and most committee members of Stowmarket Table Tennis Club, I do not have a long history with the sport. Other than playing socially as a youngster, my association with the club began in 2012 when my sons joined. Like many parents I started to help out and play a little and the following season, with my youngest son Luke we entered and won the Two’s Division in the Bury League. I now regularly play once a week.
While the boys have gone on to become junior players of note in the County, I seem to have peaked early, as with the move to Division Two my averages have not been exactly outstanding! In my role as taxi driver and cheerleader, I have visited several clubs around the country and have become familiar with the junior tournament circuit, ranging from the unranked Suffolk & Cambridgeshire Border League, to the Table Tennis England Nationals.
In 2014 I joined the club committee and am now pleased to take on the role of Chairman.
