Report – Suffolk Senior Closed Table Tennis Championships 2022-2023

Sunday 23rd April 2023 saw 24 entrants into this season’s County Senior Championships held at Stowupland Sports Centre.

A contest between youth and experience fought out the latter stages of the Mens events with the juniors, Isaac and Luke prevailing against Andrew Warner and Richard Hutchinson respectively, in close semi final contests. Isaac went on to seize the crown from last year’s winner Luke.

The women’s group came down to a final match decider between the two top seeds with Alice coming through deuce in the fifth against Gracie.

Unaffected by the narrow defeat, Gracie went on to hold her nerve and captured the Restricted singles event, defeating Alexander Graham deuce in the fifth.

The handicap singles produced many close matches, with the final eventually being played out between Paul McGerty (20) and Alex Gosling (16). Experience won through with Paul taking the victory.

Top seeds in the doubles Luke and Kian, breezed through the tournament defeating Alex Attew and Alex Gosling in the final. The latter pairing had saved match points against them in their excellent semi final win over Andrew Warner and Richard Hutchinson.

The mixed doubles was the tightest event of the day with all matches going to a final and very close leg. Andrew Warner and Gracie narrowly won through eventually, with Kian and Alice runners up.
